Abstract

The article discusses a study that addressed the differences between the wide-ranging interior form of the Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch (Leucostite tephrocotis tephrocotis) and the Black Rosy-Finch ( Leucostite atrata). It discusses the difficulty of distinguishing the interior form of the species because both typically have broad silver-gray superciliary stripes and hind crowns. The study shows that distinguishing the male Black Rosy-Finch from the Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch may not be so difficult because of the brown auriculars, cheeks and backs of the latter.
