Abstract

The article investigates the overexploitation of medicinal plants in Canada. It cites the overharvesting of Pacific yew, which is composed of an anti-cancer substance called Taxol, due to improper reaping in the 1960s. It forecasts that the global market for drugs from medicinal plants will reach 26 billion dollars in 2011. It elaborates the significance of the collaboration of Aborigines and pharmaceutical scientists for the proper use of medicinal plants.
