Abstract

The article describes the case of a parvovirus-associated cerebellar hypoplasia and hydrocephalus in day old broiler chickens. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to detect parvovirus DNA in three of nine brains with oligonucleotide primers. Findings of the postmortem examination on the broiler chickens noted that a chicken parvovirus might cause a neurologic disease of young chickens characterized by cerebellar hypoplasia and hydrocephalus.
