Abstract

The article focuses on a study that evaluated trends in the incidence and serotype profile of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in children below 2 years old after the introduction of the 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (7vPCV) in Australia. Researchers used data obtained from the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System and population estimates provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Results indicate that a reduction in IPD caused by 7vPCV serotypes contributed to a decrease in the overall incidence of IPD from 2002 to 2007.
