Abstract

The article discusses the significance of the Barrhill Chertsey Irrigation (BCI) dairy farmer cooperative scheme in Canterbury, New Zealand. The low cost of the BCI consent hearing is attributed to the quality of the consultative process through the late 1990s. The scheme is currently managed by the original cooperative and Electricity Ashburton. Also noted is the importance of storage to the Canterbury Water Management Strategy.
