A public appeal was made by the organization British Writers in Support of Palestine (BWISP) to British writer Ian McEwan to respect the Palestinian civil society boycott call to end Israel's alleged occupation, colonization and system of apartheid. Several other celebrities such as singer Elvis Costello and filmmaker Mike Leigh have also decided to boycott Israel.
