Abstract

The article discusses the wasp predation on egg clutches of Guibemantis, a genus of mantellid frogs in Madagascar. It says that Malagasy frogs display various behavioural patterns such as diverse reproductive behavior, wherein they can exhibit 11 reproductive modes. It cites that predation on frog egg clutches deposited outside of water has been recorded for a few snakes and never by wasps. Meanwhile, it states that a Ropalidia wasp predation was recorded near Andasibe, Madagascar on February 2, 2007. It concludes that wasp predation of arboreal eggs left on vegetation over-hanging swamps or ponds has been found only in the Neotropics.
