Abstract

The article reports on the initiative of a suburban school district in the U.S. to provide teacher professional development to address the needs of English language learner (ELL) students using the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) model. The tool provides teachers with strategies and skills necessary to help ELL students. Moreover, the classroom-based professional development offers content-specific feedback to teachers and involves shared responsibility to make effective ideas.
