Abstract

The article presents a historical profile of Donahoe's, a butter shop turned cafeteria and grocer located on Fifth Avenue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during the 20th century. The popularity of the business as a dining hall for downtown lunch customers during the 1920s is highlighted as well its promotion of healthy eating with its menu collaboration with Dr. Frank McCoy. Examples of advertising slogans used by the company and its marketing of pre-cooked dinners in the 1950s and 1960s are also examined.
