Abstract
- The article cites a research study that analyzes how runoff and water quality were influenced at the outlets of two subwatersheds in the South Tobacco Creek watershed in Manitoba by beneficial management practices (BMPs). It is said that BMPs are suitable for reducing nutrient losses from agricultural land. The study recorded runoff and water quality at the two subwatersheds from 1999 to 2008. In one of these two subwatersheds, five BMPs were implemented beginning in 2005. It found that more than 80 percent of the nitrogen and phosphorus in runoff at the subwatersheds were lost in dissolved forms.
