Abstract

The article focuses on the legacy of Rear Admiral Robert E. Peary and his chief aide Matthew A. Henson, the two Inuits who made a historic expedition on the North Pole a century ago. The descendants of Peary made a series of Arctic expeditions in the 1890s and learned traditional hunting skills. The great-grand children's generation have a close knit relationship, with most Pearys and Hensons residing in the ancestral village of Qaanaaq and others far afield in Greenland.
