Abstract

The author focuses on the role of 3rd Viscount Palmerston, known as Henry John Temple, in reforming the British foreign policy. Palmerston was known for his military threats that coerce foreign governments, like ordering naval attacks on Chinese towns to force the Chinese Empire to unblock opium exports to British India. The author believes the approach of Palmerston was justified to defend British interests, where his leadership style was similar to William the Conqueror.
