Abstract

The article reports on the Flensburg, Germany-based Danish Central Library for South Schleswig (DCLS), which provides services to 50,000 ethnic Danes residing in that part of Germany. After a 1920 plebiscite, the southern area of Schleswig-Holstein (formerly affiliated with Denmark) fell under German sovereignty, but the Danish government continued to provide services to the area's Danish minority. The article reports that the DCLS promotes civic engagement among this population while maintaining The Schleswig Collection (a local history collection) and history archives pertaining to the Danish and Frisian minorities.
