Abstract

This article focuses on the social and political influence that the German politician Count Arthur of Posadowsky-Wehner had over Germany during the "Ära Posadowsky" (Era of Posadowsky). Several topics are discussed, including how he was the district administrator in Posen, Germany, a delegate of the German Landtag (parliament) from 1882 to 1885, and the German Secretary for the Treasury. According to the article the Ära Posadowsky began in 1897 when he became a Secretary of State and began putting his policies into place and made several laws that improved the social conditions in Germany, including laws increasing sickness benefits, stricter child labor laws, and laws legitimizing vocational associations. Also discussed is how he has been portrayed since the end of his political career.
