Abstract

The article features tokens from the cult of Boy Bishops, a custom in the Middle Ages whereby a boy was chosen to parody the real Bishop. The Boy Bishop ceremony was held at Bury Saint Edmund in Suffolk, England as far back as 1418. It describes a Type ten groat, Bury series penny and sprue with pennies attached, a lead ingot with penny imprint, and some Type three pennies.
