Abstract

The article discusses the history of the Ibāḍī movement, a form of Islam distinct from the Sunni and Shia denominations, the dominant form of Islam in Oman and Zanzibar, between the 8th and the 10th century. Ibadis can also be found in Algeria, Tunisia, East Africa as well as Libya. Topics mentioned in the article include Ibadi's institutions and their writings, the sources of that doctrine, including oral traditions and manuscripts, and archives containing Ibadi literature located in Algeria and France.
