Abstract

The article presents a study which examines the megaesophagus disease in parma wallabies (Macropus parma) at the San Diego Zoo in San Diego, California. The study performs prospective and retrospective study using institutional survey, blood samples, and aerobic bacterial culture and cytology to determine the cause and prevalence of megaesophagus in parma wallabies. Results show that clinical signs of the disease include weight loss, swelling of the cervical region, and short flight distance. Moreover, the cause of megaesophagus in parma wallabies is not identified.
