Abstract
- The article focuses on the idea of American masculinity in regards to concepts of the wild west in popular culture, with particular focus on the video game "Red Dead Redemption" ("RDR"). The author argues that the idea of the rugged cowboy has increased in popularity since the 2008 economic collapse. She analyzes the plot of "RDR," discusses the hierarchy of national identities, including race, gender, and economic status, in relation to frontier ideologies, and describes how "RDR" dramatizes neoliberalism through popular western culture.
