Part 1: Reports from the Field: Federal Agency and Federal Library Reports: National Center for Education Statistics Library Statistics Program.

A section of Part 1 of the book "Library & Book Trade Almanac" is presented, focusing on the Library Statistics Program initiated by the U.S. National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) in 1989. The aim was to collect and disseminate more complete statistical information about libraries. It details the two surveys administered by the NCES, the Academic Libraries Survey (ALS) and the School Library Media Centers Survey. Also discussed is how to obtain printed and electronic products.
