Abstract
- The article discusses passage 10:37 from the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament of the Bible, which concerns love of Jesus Christ and love of family. It particularly explores this passage in relation to the Catholic and Protestant debates concerning convents and cloistering during the Victorian era. The author addresses the views of various Anti-Catholic polemicists, and she comments on stories of escaped nuns. A reading of Matthew 10:37 by evangelical commentator Thomas Scott is also considered.
