Abstract

The article offers information on the standardization of commercial instrument testing for cotton production in developing nations in Africa. It states that cotton instrument testing started about 1922 but it was around 1982 that accurate, reproducible and high speed testing became available and it was Texas cotton producers who pushed for the utilization of instrument testing in cotton production to reap the rewards. It mentions that their success paved the way for the improvement of cotton varieties and the adoption of instrument testing standardization in other countries. Moreover, it notes that the use of standardized instrument testing of cotton in African developing countries is the project of Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) and the European Union.
