Abstract

To study the effect of Fe<subscript>2</subscript>(SO<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript> as flocculant on microbial activity of activated sludge, Fe<subscript>2</subscript>(SO<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript> in dosages of 20,40,60,80,100 mg · L<superscript>-1</superscript> was dropped into ASS and four hours latter DHA, R<subscript>SOU</subscript> and EPS content were examined as well as COD et al. The results showed that DHA, R<subscript>SOU</subscript> and EPS content were insensitive to Fe<subscript>2</subscript>(SO<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript> in range of 20-60 mg · L<superscript>-1</superscript>, and the removal rates of COD, TP and UV<subscript>254</subscript> in effluent increased greatly with the concentration of Fe<subscript>2</subscript>(SO<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript> increased. When the concentration of Fe<subscript>2</subscript>(SO<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript> was 80 mg · L<superscript>-1</superscript>, DHA, R<subscript>SOU</subscript> and EPS content decreased distinctly. When the concentration of Fe<subscript>2</subscript>(SO<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript> was 100 mg · L<superscript>-1</superscript>, DHA and R<subscript>SOU</subscript> were inhibited further, whereas total EPS content increased greatly. Meanwhile the removal rates of COD, TP and UV<subscript>254</subscript> in effluent increased slowly, and the removal rates of SCOD and NH<subscript>3</subscript>-N tended to decline.
