Abstract
- The article reports on a conference on the history of natural disasters, held in Munich, Germany, from May 18-19, 2012. Topics discussed included the importance of the field of environmental history to modern historiography, media reporting on two chemical accidents at the BASF chemical plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany, in 1921 and 1948, and the 1957 accident at the Majak (Mayak) nuclear reprocessing facility in the Chelyabinsk district of Russia.
