Abstract
- Adding Simmel to sociology's "canon," said by some to consist of Durkheim, Weber, and Marx, according to Morrison (2007), Ritzer (2010:Chapter 2; and Edles and Appelrouth (2005: Chapters 2-4), broadens that canon so as to supplement its largely structural character with Simmel's micro and middle range approaches to groups and to urban life. While Simmel was also a European, his differences from the other three canon members are significant, almost American, his work influencing the "Chicago School" of Small, Park, and Burgess. Adding Simmel's "relationism" to the cannon would supplement, broaden, and universalize it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
