Abstract

The article discusses the detection of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) in semen of infected cattle bulls. It states that FMDV is a highly contagious virus transmitted by contact, aerosols, and fomites. According to the one study, virus isolation and immunoassays which are the routine FMD diagnostic methods have low sensitivity in detecting FMDV; however, the study suggests that use of optimized multiplex polymerase chain reaction (mPCR) assay is effective.
