Abstract

The article focuses on the decline in the average capacity factor of power reactors in the U.S. It cites the closure of Dominion Generation's Kewaunee and Duke Energy's Crystal River-3 reactors. The median capacity factor of power reactors was 89.56 percent in 2010-2012, which is lower than the capacity factor achieved in 2007-2009. A total of 40 reactors have higher capacity factors in 2010-2012 an 64 had lower factors due to refueling outages.
