Abstract
- The article focuses on initiatives taken by the Nisga'a Indians of British Columbia in using the legal system to reclaim the social and economic development of its territory and gain access to private property on its land. It retraces the evolution of their territory since the pre-colonial era, sheds light on their collective representation regarding that space, and evaluates how the diversification of Nisga'a territoriality contributed to their adoption of the Landholding Transition Act. The author presents a profile of the contemporary Nisga'a geographical identity dynamic, specifically since the establishment of private property on these lands, and looks at the reach and limits of their political and territorial autonomy.
