Abstract

The article explores parasites of India's herbivorous wildlife. Early information on the parasites present in the country were mostly based on chance findings. Fasciola, Anoplocephala and Strongylus were found to be the parasitic fauna of Indian rhinoceros. Prevalence of parasites were discovered to be influenced by eco-geographical and other factors. The authors conclude since parasites constitute major hazards to wildlife, there is a need for effective monitoring and surveillance system.
