Abstract

The article presents the study which examined the antimicrobial resistance of Staphylococcus spp. from small ruminant mastitis in goats and sheep. In the study, the antimicrobial resistance patterns were assessed through disk diffusion test and by the detection of the presence of the antimicrobial resistance genes like mecA, blaZ and ermA through polymerase chain reaction (PCR). It claims that mastitis could lead to significant economic losses due to reduction in milk yield, lower milk quality and treatment costs. The study was conducted in Brazil.
