Abstract
- The article discusses the medical care for wounded soldiers during the U.S. Civil War. An overview of the role that military physicians played in treating Civil War casualties, including surgeons' use of anesthesia when amputating limbs and physicians' treating of gunshot wounds and concussions, is provided. An overview of the military hospitals used during the U.S. Civil War is also provided.
