Abstract
- This article discusses the economic conditions and policies in the Holy Roman Empire under the rule of Charles V, from 1540-1544. The author comments on the tendency of Charles V to use Genoese, German, and Castilian banks for loans to the monarchy. He also examines the repayment of these loans, mainly through Crusade indulgences, and provides an analysis via the Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which serves to investigate the influence of geography on these economic issues. The role of the Royal Treasury and the Catholic Church is also explored.
