Abstract
- The article discusses the impact of the First World War on the national identity of Australians, arguing that a transnational Anglo-Saxonism that identified with Germany and the U.S. was replaced by a British imperial loyalty following the war. Topics include the author Sir Henry Rider Haggard's visit to Australia in 1916, the historian E. A. Freeman, and the work of the professor Neville Meaney concerning British race patriotism.
