Abstract

The article discusses a study on the development of wildlife criterion values (WCV) for the Common Loon, Gavia immer, in the Adirondack Park in New York based on estimates of wildlife population viability through measurements of contaminant stressors. Topics covered are the level of water mercury concentrations required to protect the Common Loon population and the accuracy of WCV within the park. Also discussed is the impact of mercury levels on the reproductive success and behavior of loons.
