Abstract

The article discusses a study which detected the presence of polycyclic aromatic hycrocarbons (PAH) in blood samples from Common Loons, Gavia immer, wintering off the coast of Louisiana from 2011-12 after the Deepwater Horizon oil drilling rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. Topics covered are the changes in the concentration levels and frequency of petrogenic alkyl PAH derived from petroleum and pyrogenic PAH derived from combustion and anthropogenic sources.
