Abstract

The article reports on research which was conducted to investigate whether infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) Ark serotype vaccines induce suboptimal mucosal responses and contribute to the prevalence of the Ark serotype in poultry and contribute to a high prevalence of the serotype seen in poultry in the Southeastern U.S. despite extensive vaccination. Researchers vaccinated several chickens. They found that lower mucosal Immunoglobulin A (IgA) antibody levels are observed upon secondary exposure to IBV, which may contribute to vulnerability of host epithelial cells to infection by IBV and persistence of the Ark serotype
