Abstract

The article offers a look at the ongoing debate among historians over the causes of the First World War. Topics covered include the agreement among historians in Great Britain, France and the U.S. that Germany caused the war, as shown in Article 231 of the Treaty of Versailles referred to as the war guilt clause, the guilt section from the German foreign office, to show that it was not Germany's fault, and the theories of German historian Fritz Fischer regarding the war.
