Summary The mixed leucocyte culture is an important test in the immunologic donor selection. It is particularly suited to find identical living donors within the family. The in vitro homograft reaction serves as a good indicator for the immunological reaction in vivo. The method and its advantages and disadvantages are described; its scope of application in the field of transplantation is discussed, including also the author's own observations.
