Abstract

Alumina-tin nanocomposites have been synthesized by direct grinding of α-Al<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>3</subscript>-β-Sn powder mixtures, as well as by reactive milling of Al-SnO<subscript>2</subscript> mixtures. According to the preparation method used, the composites differ from one another mainly in the amount of a disordered SnO<subscript>x</subscript> (x≈1.1) phase and in the structural characteristics of alumina.
