Abstract

The two new ligands N-[(2-pyridyl)methyl]-2,2'-dipyridylamine (L1) and N-[bis(2-pyridyl)methyl]-2-pyridylamine (L2) have been synthesized and the copper(II) complexes [Cu(L1)<INF>2</INF>(CH<INF>3</INF>OH)<INF>2</INF>](ClO<INF>4</INF>)<INF>2</INF>, [Cu(L1)<INF>2</INF>(H<INF>2</INF>O)<INF>2</INF>](ClO<INF>4</INF>)<INF>2</INF>, [Cu<INF>3</INF>(L1)<INF>2</INF>(DMF)<INF>2</INF>Cl<INF>6</INF>], [Cu(L1)Cl<INF>2</INF>]<INF>n</INF>, [Cu(L2)(Cl)(ClO<INF>4</INF>)], and [Cu(L2)Cl<INF>2</INF>] have been structurally characterised. The reactions of dioxygen with the copper(I) complexes with ligands L1 and L2 were investigated, but no copper−dioxygen intermediates could be detected spectrophotometrically.
