Biginellilike three component reaction: Synthesis of some new ethyl 6ethoxycarbonylmethyl4aryl2oxo1,2,3,4tetrahydropyrimidine5carboxylate derivatives

In the context of our highthroughput organic synthesis program, we have studied the reactivity of special βketo esters toward the Biginelli reaction. We have found that a diethyl3oxoglutarate reacts with one molecule of urea and one molecule of aldehyde under solventfree conditions to give a new family of 3,4dihydropyrimidin21Hones in good yields.
