Abstract

Sulfluramid (N‐Ethylperfluorooctane sulfonamide) is a highly effective insecticide for controlling ants. It is usually incorporated into orange pellets at a concentration of 0.3%, in combination with 4 to 6% soybean oil. The objective of the present study was to develop a capillary gas chromatography method for the quantitative analysis of sulfluramid and its isomers in orange pellet baits with the addition of 1,2,4,5‐tetramethylbenzene as the internal standard. The proposed method proved to be rapid and reliable for the analysis of sulfluramid and its isomers in both raw material and baits. The experimental protocol, the conditions, and the equipment for analysis, as well as the recovery studies, are presented and discussed.
