Abstract

This paper proposes a sliding mode speed control for a synchronous reluctance motor. The mathematical model for the synchronous reluctance motor includes core loss. We develop a maximum torque control strategy to improve low torque performance. The sliding mode controller is implemented using a DS1102 processor board, which is the product of the dSPACE, to reduce the sensitivity to parameter variations and external disturbances. We use a low pass filter to reduce the high frequency chattering phenomenon. The experimental results show that the proposed method is valid for the synchronous reluctance motor.
