Abstract

The mean size and number density of soot particles formed in a CH_4-O_2 premixed flat flame are measured by diffusion broadening spectroscopy for two equivalence ratios and three cold gas velocities. The influences of the time transit and the Cunningham coefficient C(Kn) are pointed out. By comparing dynamic with static light scattering, it is shown that C(Kn) has to be used. From the results, the hypothesis is put forward that the mean size of the soot particles depends mainly on their residence time.
