Abstract

We report the unusual association between a large olfactory groove meningioma and cervical syringomyelia which disappeared after surgical removal of the supratentorial tumor. The association of syrinx with supratentorial large tumors may be explained by the same mechanism that is involved in cases of syringomyelia associated with posterior fossa tumor or with Chiari malformation, i.e. impaction of herniated tonsils and brainstem at the foramen magnum with obliteration of the CSF space.
