Abstract

Persistent human papillomavirus (HPV) infection with a high-risk oncogenic genotype is related to the development of cervical cancer. HPV genotype 16 (HPV 16) is by far the genotype most strongly associated with cervical cancer, but the viral variant and/or viral load of HPV 16 could specifically modulate this association. Our aim was to determine the association between the viral variant and viral load of HPV 16 and the presence of cervical high-grade lesions.
