Abstract

The presence of an acutely tender and irritable uterus in the 33rd week of gestation, associated with a low hemoglobin, led to an admitting diagnosis of possible abruptio placenta. Only with continued observation and study did the diagnosis of geophagia and partial large bowel obstruction become evident.
