Abstract
- •Authoritarianism had a larger effect on presidential vote choice in 2016 than in any prior election.•Authoritarianims has a larger effect on presidential vote choice than that for the U.S. House election.•Authoritarianims affected the vote choice of both college and non-college educated whites.•Racial animus, anti-immigrant sentiment, nativism and anti-Muslim prejudice made authoritarianism salient in 2016.
