Abstract

•Dynorphin and enkephalin are opioid peptides involved in spinal nociceptive modulation.•Peptide and mRNA were measured by Radioimmunoassay and RNA-Seq after peripheral inflammation.•Marked upregulation of prodynorphin mRNA and dynorphin A 1-8 occurred.•In situ hybridization localized the neurons mainly to medial dorsal horn.•RNA-Seq data mining of dynorphin in dorsal root ganglion revealed a role in nerve injury.
