Abstract
- Self-standing carbonaceous sheets were obtained from phyllostachys (bamboo), and their potential for use as the gas diffusion layer (GDL) of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) was investigated. Addition of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to bamboo fiber sheet was investigated in the present study. Addition of PVA gives increasing in the electrical conductivity, durability, and higher power density of the resultant PEFC single cell. The maximum power of GDL using bamboo and PVA was 155 mW cm-2, whereas it was 170 mW cm-2 for a conventional GDL composed of carbon fibers.
