Abstract

Nanocrystalline Co film was synthesized by supercritical carbon dioxide (Sc-CO2) assisted electrodeposition in this work. The corrosion resistance and tribological property of the nanocrystalline Co film in simulated body fluid (SBF), as well as its morphology and microstructure were evaluated in detail. The differences in the properties and microstructure of the Co films produced in aqueous bath at atmosphere and in emulsified Sc-CO2 bath were also compared. The results reveal that the Co film prepared in emulsified Sc-CO2 bath exhibits brighter and smoother surface as compared with the one produced in aqueous bath at atmosphere. The preferred hcp (1 0 0) orientation is changed to be fcc (2 0 0) crystal structure, when Sc-CO2 is introduced in the bath during deposition process. Moreover, the better corrosion and wear resistance, finer grain size, and higher microhardness are achieved for the Co film electrodeposited with the aid of Sc-CO2 fluid. The findings provide a remarkable electrodeposition technique not only for producing nanocrystalline Co film but also for other nanostructure film with remarkable tribological and electrochemical properties for potential applications in SBF condition.
